Grace Kibunja
Lead, Advocacy, Health Politics and DiplomacyShe is a senior global health and development leader with over 20 years of experience in advocacy, policy engagement, strategic communications, and partnership building across Africa. She has worked in more than 20 countries on pandemic preparedness, mental health, gender, social exclusion, and food systems, collaborating closely with governments, regional bodies, donors, research organizations, and civil society. Her partnerships with institutions such as the East African Community and the SADC and the SADC Parliamentary Forum have helped position evidence at the centre of regional policy processes.
Her work focuses on strengthening the use of evidence in decision-making and shaping policy processes that advance equity, accountability and community voices. Through her work she has the experience of how power operates, whose knowledge is recognised and whose voices shape decisions in both the private and public sectors.
What draws her to Global Health Otherwise is the conviction that decolonising global health requires structural change, not symbolic inclusion. She views communities as knowledge holders, advocating for frameworks where local wisdom carries equal authority in research and policy. She is known for her hands-on leadership style and her ability to lead diverse teams, navigate complex stakeholder environments, and deliver advocacy and communication strategies while building brands that influence regional agendas and translate research into action.
Her professional background includes senior roles with the Africa Food Systems Forum, the Africa Food Prize, PwC, UN-Habitat, the African Population Health and Research Center, the International School of Kenya, and Bowmans. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Design from the University of Nairobi, a Master of Science in Organizational Development from USIU, and professional certifications from the Chartered Institute of Public Relations UK and Harvard Law School.
